Ida Deichaite

See & Touch, September 2010 Feature

Deichaite's life is one of mobility, language, translation, and culture. Born in Zarasai, Lithuania, she spent her childhood braving long Baltic winters only to welcome the transformation into Spring, a change she describes as a "transition of fascination" that to this day remains "vivid and real." She spent years in Israel and Germany before moving to the United States, where she lived at first on the East Coast, then in Southern California. She has attended Hebrew University, The Weizmann Institute, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Princeton University, from where she holds her PhD in Biology. In concert with her creative practice, she is a devoted scientist working in the field of oncology at the University of California, San Diego. The Andrews Gallery is honored to host this installation as Deichaite's debut gallery exhibition.
